NEW SATA-II RAID SUBSYSTEMS FROM INFORTREND
DOUBLE PERFORMANCE FOR STORAGE ARRAYS
New Enclosure Design Features Improved Ergonomics, Acoustics
SANTA CLARA, California, October 26, 2004 — RAID storage expert Infortrend today announced it is now shipping Serial ATA (SATA-II) models of EonStor™ RAID subsystems based on its new high performance, fourth-generation RAID engine. Available in both Fibre Channel (A16F) and SCSI (A16U) dual-host versions, performance benchmark tests demonstrate greater than 300 megabytes per second (MB/sec) sequential performance in sustained Writes for both models and up to 450MB/sec Reads for the EonStor A16U-G2421.
The first of a new family of high-capacity RAID storage enclosures, the enhanced 16-bay EonStor SATA-II subsystems can support up to 6 terabytes (TB) of data and more. Built around Infortrend’s newest RAID engine, the IFT-500266 DDR ASIC features a PCI-X bus design and supports double data rate (DDR) memory, resulting in more than double the performance for the EonStor line. Highly integrated peripheral circuitry increases internal bandwidth up to 2GB/sec, making it ideal for high-throughput video, enterprise, data and telecommunications applications.

Infortrend RAID subsystems offer unparalleled flexibility with up to 64TB capacity per logical unit number (LUN) or logical drive (LD); multiple logical drive configurations—each with a different RAID level; online expansion for adding, copying and replacing drives. Broad RAID level support includes 0, 1(0+1), 3, 5, 10, 30, 50, JBOD, and NRAID.
Each controller supports DDR cache memory, has an IBM PowerPC 750FX processor with both level one and 512KB of level two internal cache, one Ethernet LAN port, and two RS-232C ports for out-of-band management and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) support.
Models and Availability
The EonStor A16F-G2221 dual host Fibre to SATA-II and A16U-G2421 dual host U320 SCSI to SATA-II single controller RAID subsystems began shipping in September through Infortrend’s worldwide network of OEMs, distributors and storage integrators. The A16U-G2421 features two dual-stacked VHDCI connectors on the rear of the subsystem, which can be used for host connection and cascading to additional RAID units.
